Educational Wind Tunnel

A wind tunnel is used by scientists to test model airplanes which have the same shape as actual airplanes. Using the wind tunnel gives the scientists information about how a certain plane would respond in flight.

The educational wind tunnel allows students to explore the basic principles of flight using model airplanes made from balsa wood.

Jetfire Glider

The Jetfire glider is restrained by a line to move only in the vertical direction. The concept of lift can be demonstrated by adding weight to the glider in the form of washers. The Jetfire glider can lift  4 washers.

Skyray Radio Controlled Rudder and Elevator

The Skyray is one of the most popular balsa wood model airplane of all time. This particular airplane has had its wings remove and is outfitted with a radio controlled rudder and elevator. It is mounted on a two axis base which allows it to pitch and yaw when in the wind tunnel. Students can observe firsthand the use of control surfaces to effect the airplanes flight.
